There’s just something about grilled corn that makes any summer meal feel complete!
I’ve been playing around with different ways to cook it, but the best way to BBQ corn on the cob is also the simplest:
No soaking, no fuss.
And I like to keep the husks on while grilling, then peel them back for the last few minutes to get a little color on the kernels.
Add a swipe of butter, a sprinkle of flaky salt, maybe some chili lime seasoning if you’re feeling bold.
Trust me, once you try it this way, you’ll never go back!
BBQ Corn on the Cob Recipe

BBQ corn on the cob in the husk is one of those simple summer tricks that makes you look like you really know what you’re doing.
The husks help steam the corn while it grills, keeping everything juicy and full of flavor.
Then you peel them back at the end for that perfect smoky char!
Ingredients
- Fresh corn on the cob, husks on
- Butter
- Flaky salt
- Chili lime seasoning (optional)
Steps
- Peel back the husks gently without removing them, and take out the silk.
- Fold the husks back over the corn and soak the cobs in water for about 10 minutes.
- Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.
- Place the soaked corn directly on the grill and cook for 15–20 minutes, turning occasionally.
- Peel the husks back and grill the exposed corn for 3–5 more minutes to get a nice char.
- Remove from heat, slather with butter, sprinkle with salt, and add seasoning if you like.
BBQ Corn on the Cob Seasoning Ideas

When it comes to seasoning, BBQ corn on the cob is basically a blank canvas.
You can keep it simple with butter and salt or go all out with big flavors.
If you’ve ever had BBQ corn on the cob Mexican style (elote), you know how wild and delicious it can get!
Here are some of my favorite seasoning ideas:
- Garlic butter with chopped parsley
- Parmesan cheese and cracked black pepper
- Chili powder, lime juice, and cotija (for a Mexican-style twist)
- Smoked paprika and sea salt
- Ranch seasoning with a little melted butter
- Everything bagel spice
- Hot honey and crushed red pepper flakes
- Lemon zest and dill
There’s no one right way to dress it up.
Just go with whatever you’re craving or have on hand!
Corn Questions Answered
Got a few questions? You’re not the only one!
These are the things people usually want to know before they fire up the grill.
Let’s clear a few things up so your corn turns out just right:
Should you barbecue corn in foil?
You can, but it’s not my go-to.
Foil traps in moisture, which steams the corn, but you miss out on that smoky, charred flavor that makes BBQ corn so good.
If you want super tender corn without the grill marks, foil works.
Otherwise, skip it.
Is it better to BBQ corn with or without the husk?
Grilling with the husk on helps steam the corn and keeps it juicy.
Then you can peel it back and give the kernels a quick char for that classic BBQ flavor. It’s the best of both worlds.
Do you need to boil corn on the cob before barbecuing it?
Nope! The grill does all the work.
As long as you soak the husks first, the corn steams inside while it cooks.
No need for boiling.
Grilled Corn Done Right
Once you’ve tried BBQ corn on the cob in the husk (with all its smoky, buttery goodness) it’s hard to make it any other way.
It’s simple, satisfying, and easy to dress up with whatever flavors you’re into.
Grilled corn brings serious summer vibes to the table, perfect for solo meals or sharing with a crowd!
