This easy takeout recipe gives you tender, buttery chicken, crisp-tender veggies, and that ridiculously addictive yum yum sauce.

Serve it up with fried rice or noodles, and you’ve got homemade hibachi that tastes just as good (if not better) than the restaurant!

Ingredients

For the Yum Yum Sauce:

  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp melted butter
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 2–3 tbsp water (to thin, as needed)

For the Hibachi Chicken:

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts (diced)
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil (or vegetable oil)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For the Hibachi Vegetables:

  • 1 zucchini (sliced)
  • 1 small onion (sliced)
  • 1 cup mushrooms (sliced)
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil

Instructions

  1. Make the Yum Yum Sauce: Whisk together all the sauce ingredients in a bowl. Add water as needed to reach your preferred consistency. Cover and refrigerate while you cook the rest.
  2. Cook the Chicken: Heat sesame oil in a large skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Add the diced chicken and season with salt and pepper. Cook for about 4–5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden brown and cooked through. Stir in soy sauce, butter, and minced garlic, cooking for another minute until fragrant. Remove from the pan and keep warm.
  3. Sauté the Vegetables: In the same pan, heat sesame oil and add the sliced zucchini, onions, and mushrooms. Stir-fry for about 4–5 minutes until tender but still crisp. Add soy sauce and butter, tossing everything together.
  4. Serve it Up: Plate the chicken and vegetables over rice or noodles. Drizzle (or drown) with yum yum sauce, and enjoy!

Restaurant-quality hibachi without leaving the house? Yes, please!

Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions?

Below are some common FAQs to help make this homemade takeout recipe as easy and delicious as possible.

What can I serve with hibachi chicken?

Hibachi chicken pairs perfectly with fried rice, steamed white rice, or stir-fried noodles.

You can also add extra veggies like broccoli, carrots, or bell peppers for a well-rounded meal.

If you want a full Japanese steakhouse experience, serve it with a side of miso soup and a simple salad with ginger dressing.

Is homemade hibachi chicken healthy?

Yes! Making hibachi chicken at home gives you control over the ingredients, so you can use less butter, swap in a lower-sodium soy sauce, or add extra veggies for a lighter version.

It’s high in protein and can be part of a balanced meal when paired with nutritious sides.

What else can I use yum yum sauce for?

Yum yum sauce isn’t just for hibachi!

It’s great as a dipping sauce for fries, drizzled over grilled meats or seafood, or even used as a burger spread.

Try it as a dressing for a simple rice bowl or a fun twist on coleslaw—it’s seriously good on just about everything.

Yum Yum, Am I Right?

And just like that, you’ve mastered homemade hibachi chicken—no chef hat required!

With juicy chicken, buttery veggies, and that dangerously good yum yum sauce, it’s safe to say takeout might start collecting dust.

The best part?

You get all the flavor without the upcharge for extra sauce.

So grab those chopsticks (or a fork, I won’t judge) and enjoy your takeout-at-home masterpiece!
